Shin Splints

Shin Splints is a common term for pain in the shin region and it is common in runners. People suffering from this will feel pain on the inner side of the shin during exercise and also at rest.

Causes of shin splints:

Poor running and walking technique, unsuitable footwear and a change in frequency, intensity, duration of running and as well as a change of running surface are common causes of shin splints.

Physiotherapy treatment will comprise of rest, strengthening and stretching exercises, and advice regarding footwear and training. They will also advise you on the gradual return to running after symptoms subside. In order to help prevent recurrence of the condition, a bio-mechanical assessment is very useful.
